INDORE: Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) passing through Madhya Pradesh is bound to change the face of arid Malwa region. Passing through Madhya Pradesh, the corridor would envelope Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow areas converting the region into a industrial hub of central India. “With the realization of industrial corridor, the country would have the first largest industrial chunk of the corridor in the form of Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow”, said Union minister of state for commerce (independent charge) Nirmala Sitharaman, who was in Indore to attend the valedictory function of the Global Investors Summit (GIS), here.
The neighbouring temple town of Indore, which has attained itself as one of major pilgrimage of Hindus due to Mahakal temple is on the radar of the Union government, which has proposed upgradation plan for Vikrampur Udyog in Ujjain industrial area.
“These are the major areas of focus of the Union government”, said Sitharaman adding that to prevent any lopsided development of the state, the Union government has also included the industrial areas of Sithapur and Morena. "Sithapur and Morena are going to be developed with the help of world class infrastructure," added the minister.
Going by the agri production of Madhya Pradesh, especially for soya and wheat, the Sitharaman said that there was enough for setting up food processing units in Madhya Pradesh. “The processing would be a part of value addition to the agricultural produce of the area”, said she adding that these steps are being initiated by the Union government on the basis of the commitment shown by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government toward making Madhya Pradesh a vibrant state. She said that she would hold a meeting with the Union minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur and discuss the modalities for developing the MP as a food processing hub.
Driving home her point, she said that the FDI inflow in Madhya Pradesh between April and July 2014-15 has been $ 100 mn as against 2013-2014 FDI inflow of $ 119 mn. She hailed the efforts of the MP government for walking an extra to attract investments.
